My question is: I'd really like to get an honest feel for the reliability of the V-Star motor and the bike overall. One of the bikes I'm looking at is a Silverado. I really like the bikes looks, but I've heard some ugly war stories of people having problems with noisey lifters, and problems with the starter working lose, and bending the bolts, etc. This concerns me enough to come ask in a place where there are hopefully enough owners to really give me a good feel for just how serious these problems are. I don't want to buy into a problem. I've also noticed that sales of this bike have slowed in the past year.

My vstar custom has just miles on it. It has the Cobra exhaust and has been rejetted. It ran perfectly when I got it. According to the previous owner it has run great for the entire miles with NO problems at all ever. Plenty of power in all gears.
Another thing that happened is a friend was washing his car and hit my bike with a hard spay of water right on the gas cap. Only then would I strip the carbs, if I found nothing else to be off. For Yamaha V-Star riders, changing oil is a nightmare, thanks to the oil filter location's design problem.

Given the high-voltage circuit in the bike, the battery drains quickly and thus can fail to start the engine at any time. Some confuse it with the V-Star , which has a single front disc. Went to start it one time, it died Then fuel started pouring from the over flowing tubing of the carbs I assumed I flooded the engine. Any ideas? Its cc air-cooled V-twin engine has a classic design and a single overhead cam. Seems like if it were jetted improperly it would have started doing this right away. Solution You need to test the voltage level of your battery and rectifier to determine the cause of the voltage regulator problems in your bike. Solution The best solution for this V-Star problem is to ensure you regularly check the intake boot to see if there are leaks. Check intakes for cracks.
