I never knew that Yamaha still had a manual-start version of its long-running 50H Tiller Steer outboard motor — until I tried one last year. Originally released on the Australian market in , this was the engine from which Yamaha developed its 40V. In commercial circles this engine tends to be overshadowed by the Yamaha Enduro 40 and 60, which are incredibly popular in Africa, South America and the Pacific Islands. The Yamaha 40 has a gear ratio and the 60 has a hefty 2. Still, for tiller-steer planing hulls the taller ratio does reduce prop-steer torque when planing, whereas the Yamaha Enduro 60 really builds up your arm muscles.

Yamaha's legendary three-cylinder two-stroke outboards are powerful, lightweight and compact. Excellent response throughout low and mid range RPM is achieved through superior exhaust manifold design and an ideal crankshaft arrangement. Yamaha's unique marine alloy, YDC, has been developed exclusively to handle the harshest of marine environments and is the result of years of Yamaha research and testing. YDC delivers superior anti-corrosion properties that Yamaha outboards are legendary for. Loop-charged scavenging creates a circular fuel flow for efficient transfer of exhaust gas and even distribution of the air-fuel mixture. The result is greater combustion efficiency for excellent performance and better fuel economy. The capacitor discharged ignition system provides strong spark and precise timing, preventing plug fouling, improving starting performance and reducing maintenance. Wide range power tilt and trim allows convenient engine operation and adjustments to the boat attitude to meet changing conditions while underway. Years of research and development have made Yamaha's power trim and tilt units reliable and extremely durable. Yamaha's exclusive Precision Blend multi point oil injection system injects the precise amount of oil needed by the motor to the intake manifold during engine operation. This feature eliminates the need to pre-mix fuel and oil. Yamaha uses strategically placed aluminium and zinc anodes for maximum corrosion protection. These anodes are even larger than necessary, ensuring total effectiveness. The shallow water drive system allows the engine to be quickly set and operated at a tilted angle allowing safe navigation through shallow water. One of Yamaha's best selling controls, this mechanical remote offers comfort, simplicity and flexibility.

I think instead of thinking you need to tell Jack Foreman what to do to make that prop work you should give him numbers and how those numbers change in different scenarios.

.

The engine features corrosion protection in the form of the Enhanced Ultimate Corrosion Protection System. It also has three gears: forward, neutral and reverse. The 50TLR is a three-cylinder, two-stroke motor that displaces cc. The bore is 2. The outboard motor weighs lbs. The shaft is 20 inches long and features power trim and tilt, as well as a right-hand gearcase rotation.

Its got hrs on it, I use it every single wkend prob missed 4 wkends since I got it and usually twice a wkend. A few wks ago it started getting a 'dead zone' in the throttle.

Also make sure you have no false alarms that are limiting RPM but not sounding the alarm. This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Multifunction Tiller Handle With the latest technologies, ergonomic design and features, Yamaha's optional Multi-Function Tiller Handle delivers effortless control, maneuverability and comfort. Across the entire rpm range vibration levels were very low, and the 50H was only raucous at or near WOT due to carbie induction roar. Now it bogs down and almost dies at rpm. These props deliver Yamaha's high-quality design and performance in a low-cost, lightweight propeller. The long multifunction tiller arm with upfront gearshift was a delight to use, especially as the review hull had a helm seat mounted to starboard, situated just ahead of the Yammie. I tried a Solas 11 pitch with cupping and cut rpms down to about 4K. I'm assuming the linkage opens the carbs and advances the timing correctly, or is timing controlled electronically? Ran fine, got up to RPM at wot. China goes as far as printing counterfeit packaging these days. The result is greater combustion efficiency for excellent performance and better fuel economy. Originally released on the Australian market in , this was the engine from which Yamaha developed its 40V. Genuine Yamaha Propellers Prop choice makes a huge difference to outboard acceleration, top-end speed, handling and fuel efficiency.

Are you experiencing issues with your Yamaha outboard not reaching full RPM?

I saw rpm with that prop. Loop-charged scavenging creates a circular fuel flow for efficient transfer of exhaust gas and even distribution of the air-fuel mixture. Trim, shift, throttle, stop switch, variable trolling and integrated overheating and low oil pressure warning alerts are all built into the handle. That is an incorrect generalization started decades ago by internet armchair prop gurus that has stuck around far too long. Yamaha's exclusive Precision Blend multi point oil injection system injects the precise amount of oil needed by the motor to the intake manifold during engine operation. Despite having a performance-robbing hydrofoil I really hate those gimmicks on the anti-ventilation plate, the Yammie returned very good cruising and WOT speeds. Combined with a broad, flat-planing plank the hull not only planes easily but floats in very shallow water. Sign up. Does anyone have any suggestions or other steps I can take to pin down what my problem is now?
