Thread Tools. Helping a customer to trouble shoot a VQ swapped Spec V. I've never had a ECU go bad, but I think that's what we've narrowed it down to. Here's the symptoms and what we've tested: Car died suddenly at highway speed was raining heavily No spark at all Can smell fuel while cranking Fuel pump primes ECCS relay is working: - power at coils, injectors, MAF, 350z bad ecu symptoms, 350z bad ecu symptoms and cam sensors All fuses check out No codes Replaced crank sensor with new one from Nissan The fact that he is getting 12 volts switched to all of the sensors, tells me that it's not the ECCS relay.

As I made my way onto the off ramp my Z suddenly lost all throttle response, SEL came on slip light came on, and no matter how much gas I gave it, the rpm's never made it above Of course I was freaked out, first thing I thought was the ECU finally made up it's mind to take a dump because of the exhaust mods I added. I then shut the car off sat there for a few minutes and started it up again. Started right up idled fine but SEL was still on. I call my service guy and give him the details, wants me to bring in the next day. Next day: So they run a code check and find out it has something to do with the throttle actuator. After further probing they find that the ECU is bad causing it to pull voltage from the throttle actuator which in turn causes the ECU to go into safe mode. I think this is a freak incident since I couldn't find any ECU problems when doing a search but if anyone has any info about this I'd like to hear it. They also looked to see if they're were any TSB and none come up.
The service tech never gave any specifics, I think he just determined there was an ECU problem and decided the best way to fix it was to replace it with a new one. Log in. VO in for results.
When conditions change, the ECM will automatically make adjustments in real-time. That is why it is so important to recognize the symptoms of ECM failure. The ECM controls a number of systems, but the most important ones for our purposes are the air to fuel ratio, the engine timing. It also controls the transmission in automatic transmission vehicles, and valve timing on vehicles with variable valve timing. This is superior to old, mechanical systems, where you had to adjust the carburetor from time to time or have the engine timing tuned. When an issue arises, the ECM will log an error code that lets you know the source of the problem. This can be advantageous since you can determine the exact cause of failure.

Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions. As far as the rest of the problem, I know no one who has gone FI on a Z and has not had problems. You bought a used car with a turbo, the SES light has been on since you bought it, :wtf: who in their right mind buys a car with a constant SES light on anyway, especially one that has been modified to FI? There is an infinite range of things that could lead to your symptoms and I'm pretty sure you are not going to get the answer on a forum. And not ragging or anything but your post is so rambling that it is almost impossible to follow.
