The synastry aspects for soulmates that I'm talking about in this series are those really impactful ones, and this vertex axis conjunction that I'm talking about today is a potent one. This one is big. This is the first thing I look at when I look at a synastry chart. So what even is the vertex?! Well, it is the mathematical point in the sky where the ecliptic of the Sun meets the Prime Vertical. It's usually going to be in the 5 th , 6 th , 7 th , or 8 th house. Many astrologers don't talk about this being an axis, but it absolutely is.

Vertex is a point located in the right-hand side of a chart that represents the intersection of the ecliptic and the prime vertical. In astrology, it is considered an auxiliary or extra Descendant. It is associated with wish fulfillment, awakenings or realizations, the idea of destiny or fate, and some use it for moments that are life changing such as meeting your spouse, a death of a loved one, birth of a child, etc. Vertex in Aries: There is a pull or call to be a leader in some fashion. This person can feel like they are always falling into situations where they are forced to lead, fight, or assert. Defining the self may be important to feeling fulfilled. Self-expression and honoring the importance of the individual can help them feel more stable in a chaotic world. That is the first thing I thought of for Vertex in Taurus. The fear and frustration surrounding what they cannot control can be real. In terms of fate many describe this position as being about finding inner security and being more independent.

They call the Vertex the "counter ascendant" for this reason and the descriptions for it are often talking about interrelations rather than matters of the self. Therefore, wouldn't the Anti-Vertex be more important? While I'm aware interrelations are important to our development, development all starts within us and us alone so would the anti-vertex not be more important? Often, when I see astrologers using it in synastry or transits, they are noting the opposition is present, meaning that the planet in question is actually conjunct the anti-vertex! So what is the point of having the vertex the main used in interpretations?

The vertex is a theoretical point in the heavens where the ecliptic-the apparent orbit of the Sun around the earth-crosses the prime vertical-the plane that runs at right angles to the meridian and divides the celestial sphere from front to back. The Ascendant axis describes the physical body and brain and the environment in which a child is reared. Because, at the end of the day, once we do meet these fated encounters vertex it is up to us to take on the opportunities from those encounters to grow in our path to enlightenment towards our fated destiny anti-vertex.
