Production for the pilot episode began in mid-February Unbeknownst to Ally, Austin and Dez "borrow" one of her songs, record it, create a video and post it on the Internet, after which it and Austin become a local internet sensation. When Trish convinces Ally to tell the world she wrote the song, Austin pleads with her to write another hit for him. Instead, the two combine their talents to create a true musical tour-de-force. Ross Lynch portrays Austin Moon , whom is a teenager that is propelled to stardom after he becomes an overnight internet sensation with the song " Double Take ", which he "stole" from Ally, something that made her very angry at Austin, but after all, she forgave him, and they became good friends and partners. Laura Marano portrays Ally Dawson , whom is the brilliant and talented teenager whom is restricted to only writing songs because of her paralyzing stage fright.

Set in Miami, Florida , the series focuses on the relationship between two very different musicians: extroverted and fun-loving singer and instrumentalist Austin Moon and introverted and awkward songwriter Ally Dawson, who is also a singer, but has a bad case of stage fright. Later, he changes the tempo of the song and sings it himself, although he's completely forgotten it's the same song he heard Ally singing. He becomes famous from it after his best friend, Dez, directs Austin in a music video for the song and posts it on the Internet, making Austin an overnight sensation. Once Ally takes credit for her song, she and Austin work together on a second song. At the end of the episode, Austin convinces her to become his partner, and the two agree to work together and eventually become close friends. Ally's best friend, Trish, pitches in as Austin's manager and Dez continues to direct Austin's music videos. At the end of the first season, Austin gets signed to Jimmy Starr's record label. The second season sees both Austin and Ally taking bigger steps. Ally conquers her stage fright by performing a duet with Austin. By the end of the second season, Ally signs a record deal and records an album with Ronnie Ramone, while Austin goes on his first national tour.

When Ally's book gets covered in gum, austin and ally, Trish puts the book into her cart to freeze the gum so they can scrape it off. As austin and ally album is preparing to be released, Ally realizes that with all the time she's spending with her music, she won't have time to work at Sonic Boom anymore and is forced to quit, which allows Lester to finally sell the store.

Austin, an extroverted singer and Ally, a brilliant but shy songwriter become a team. In an effort to hurry and get Austin another hit single, Ally quickly scribbles down the lyrics to a new song. Dez misreads the words and gets a kangaroo for Austin's next video. After Austin and Dez look in Ally's personal, off-limits songbook without her permission, Austin misinterprets her most recent song lyrics and thinks she has a crush on him. Ally is excited to share her newest song with the gang, convinced that it's the greatest thing she's ever written. Unfortunately, Austin doesn't share her enthusiasm, and questions her ability to write in his voice.

When Ally's old summer camp friend, Elliot, comes to Miami to visit, he and Ally spend a lot of time catching up and reminiscing about the past. Trish and Dez try to search for answers, using their knowledge from watching the show. However, she takes her job as Austin's manager very seriously. Trish and Dez get her a job at the award show to hand out trophies to the winners.
