In a profile, WNYC 's Studio explained her online presence has been well received by young women who identify with the imagery she creates and who have, in turn, confided their own stories of navigating two cultural experiences.
Growing up in a predominately white community, Ayqa Khan felt the classic teen pressure to fit in. Khan, on the other hand, was "somebody who had to prepare two hours to wake up early to make sure I had no hair on my face," she explains. It was like survival tactics. To be like the other girls, Khan started to shave everything including her arms, legs, stomach, and back. Khan kept up shaving and waxing until college. She began to stop caring so much about removing her body hair and learned to let go of social constructs and societal standards about it. To this day, she doesn't remove her body hair.
