Beaded animals
This post has been a stinker, beaded animals. I accidentally published it early and had to re-set its publish date to the end of March. Lesson learned. Next time just delete the old post and start a new one.

These wonderful beaded animals and dolls are created by enterprising women living in the townships surrounding Capetown , South Africa. The work has come to us from a project to employ and empower women in the townships of Mandela Park, Khayalitsha and Phillipi.

That snout and those ears are just too, too cute. The site is old , in frames yuck , in French Oui! I just love his sweet little face. Although the danger at this size is that someone mistakes it for a chihuahua. Obviously this photo was taken in a different setting. In fact, these little darlings were never posted on the old site at all because I made them later. Your wire will most likely break a few times. Still, I ended up making two of them so I must have felt it was worth it! More wire is needed to strengthen the legs, especially since the antlers make the head so top-heavy. I found this pig to be adorably plump and the curly tail was cute, but what I really love is its ears. It also struggles to stand properly on its wee legs. I found a lot of these patterns online and made up a few of my own.
I suspect Beaded animals started with the badger because I liked his little limbs and used them on the squirrel and raccoon patterns. I felt all of the bead cat patterns I saw looked a little too cartoon-y so I tried making my own, beaded animals.

Each beaded animal is created by one of our master designers under our guidance. A single design can take a day or even a few weeks and considerable tweaking until it meets our approval. We study images and research details of an animal then provide pictures, sketches, color schemes and suggestions to our designers. They begin by shaping heavy gauge galvanized steel wire into a frame in the shape of an animal. Next, the artisans bead numerous shimmering glass seed beads onto finer, more flexible wire and wrap and secure the beaded wire over the animal frame. Bead and wire crafting is an original African art form.
