Interesting method. I should try to use the widgets more often, I suppose. The only drawback I find is that it seems to move even the points at the end of the edges. Note that this is also possible with Edge slide :p. Just slide the vertices that are selected on the 1st image to one end of the edge so they overlap the other vertices. Then use Edge Slide again to make them slide to where you want.
