Post-party, he enjoyed the idea so much that he worked on toning down the pulp and bringing out the humanity in Eli. To this end, he concentrated enormously on finding the story's real theme. Part of the fun of writing it as a book was not having to worry about that, and just tell the story the way that I wanted to tell it.
