Known to live near the volcanic regions, the Smotherwing Butterflies are very rare insects that can be found only across a few places in Hyrule and, even in the places that they do populate, players can't find enough of them.

Summerwing Butterflies can typically be found in areas of warm climates, such as at the base of Death Mountain. However, they are also fairly common on the Great Plateau , appearing in all areas, other than the snowy region of Mount Hylia and the River of the Dead. They can be sold to shop-vendors all over Hyrule for 2 Rupees each. A Summerwing Butterfly can be cooked alongside monster parts to create Elixirs. When cooked with a monster part that has no specific enhancement, such as a Bokoblin Horn , Link will create a Spicy Elixir. This will temporarily allow Link to travel into colder climates without taking damage. Cooking a Spicy Elixir works well early on in Link's quest when he is on the Great Plateau, as it will allow him to travel into the colder environment of Mount Hylia.
