I wondered if Celene might have passed on her lessons in the bardic arts. All the better to avenge my parents. Briala grew up the child of elven servants to the Valmont family. Her parents were proud to work for Grand Duke Reynaud , and worked hard to protect their position in the household as well as ensure Briala's own future within it. Her parents were able players of the Game : Briala's father taught her to avoid eye contact to observe others without being noticed [1] while her mother taught her the rudiments of the Orlesian politics as well as pride in her worth as a city elf. When Briala was a child, her mother had another elven servant accused of theft to ensure that Briala, rather than the servant's daughter, would be Princess Celene's personal handmaid. Celene was ten at the time. Briala's mother instructed her daughter to be very careful, obey the other girl in everything, and become her friend. Six years after becoming the princess's handmaiden, Briala consoled Celene when her parents were killed and her uncle Duke Prosper de Montfort was called away by the emperor, helping her to advance in the Game and becoming her confidante. This is one of two main quests that triggers following the fall of Haven and the Inquisition's relocation to Skyhold, and it follows the plot the Herald uncovers in either Champions of the Just or In Hushed Whispers to assassinate Empress Celene and throw Orlais into chaos. Unlike many of the more straightforward main story quests, Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts doesn't focus its attention on battling enemies. Instead, players spend most of their time playing politics and uncovering several plots by Celene, her cousin Gaspard who claims the throne is his, and Briala, Celene's jilted Elven lover and former advisor. Players will need to decide who to side with in the fight for the throne and throw the Inquisition's support and manpower behind one of these three key players. What makes this quest interesting, in addition to its focus on discovering secrets and snooping around the Winter Palace, is that there is no clear right answer. In fact, the quest could end in one of five different ways, with different benefits and consequences for each.
