Brixham's outer harbour is protected by this long breakwater which is also useful for sea angling and hundreds of ships have been wrecked on the rocks around the town. One terrible storm in was so bad that even the beacon on the breakwater was swept away. Fifty vessels were wrecked and more than one hundred lives were lost in the storm that night.
