Bubble on laptop screen

I have begun to notice very small bubbles around the edge of my screen I initially thought that these were a surface defect but after giving the screen a good clean the defect is behind the touch surface, bubble on laptop screen.

My friends laptop has what looks like bubbles in the screen. Does anyone know what causes this and if its fixable? It kinda looks like when you have a screen protector that bubles… yet theres no screen protector on it. Its a Asus EEpc… those little nettops. Have you contacted Asus to see if they will warranty it? It is hard to say exactly what happened to it.
