Japanese anime is different from cartoons, cartoonish anime. While both are caricatures that may be animated, anime usually has visually distinct features for characters, and a more "limited animation" style for depicting movement. Anime illustrations are known to be exaggerated as far as physical features cartoonish anime concerned.

Few can deny the kind of mark anime has left on the medium of animation as a whole.
