The old, towering fir trees in center field have disappeared. And a construction crew has taken over the area beyond the fence to build the newest addition at the year-old stadium. After years of fundraising, planning and dreaming, coach Mitch Canham and the three-time national champions are finally on the verge of having a standalone hitting facility. The baseball area is almost an afterthought, hidden away with barely enough space for two hitting cages and a large flat screen to watch video. In recent seasons, the Beavers have flocked to the old, confined space at all hours of the day to get in extra hitting work, fine-tune swings or fight to break out of a slump.
