The church is headquartered in the United States in Salt Lake City , Utah and has established congregations and built temples worldwide. According to the church, it has over 17 million members and over 72, full-time volunteer missionaries. Under Smith's leadership, the church's headquarters moved successively to Ohio , Missouri , and Illinois. After Smith's death and a resultant succession crisis , the majority of his followers sided with Brigham Young , who led the church to its current headquarters in Salt Lake City. Young and his successors continued the church's growth, first throughout the Intermountain West , and more recently as a national and international organization.

Wednesday, March 13, In the forested areas around the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple , a pair of toucans can often be spotted watching the construction activity from the nearby trees. A wide variety of birds live in these forests, which create a striking backdrop for the temple. Concrete and steel have been forming the building's main structure over the past nine months. Work is underway on the roof and on building the foundational support for the tower. Tuesday, March 12, Crews are building the frame for the central steeple of the Miraflores Guatemala City Guatemala Temple. The two-story edifice stands on a major boulevard on the western side of Guatemala's capital city. It is the fourth temple to be constructed in Guatemala. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a worldwide faith of over 17 million members centered on the belief that everyone on earth is a son or daughter of a loving God 1 and that His Son, Jesus Christ, saved the world from sin and death.
