I lived 5 years in Clayton. Some people said the crime rate is high, especially near Monash Uni, but I never faced any problems there. Clayton is well known for Monash Uni and Monash Medical Centre, but most of its residents are international students. Old houses with small rooms and dirty gardens. I think Clayton is good for investors to build new townhouses and rent out, not for families. I often walk alone at night time around the area. Monash Hospital is a 5 minute walk from the station, and all adjoining medical facilities you could need IVF, Radiology Clinics, Dentistry, physiotherapy etc are basically right next to the hospital. There is a great Aquatic and Fitness club adjoined to a local library and theatre in central Clayton, I find the prices cheap for the centre, and the staff friendly at all venues. The library has a medium range, but the staff are happy to get books delivered from other libraries.
