This is not a Piper v. This book has a lot about cats, actual cats, and I liked seeing that because it's clear how important the cats were to Cleary, cleary wolters book.

Cleary Wolters wants viewers of the Netflix series to know: The character is her, but she's not the villain in Piper's life. Watching her alter ego come to life on the small screen was a shock for Cleary Wolters. But there's little doubt it's her: In both the book and the hit show Orange Is the New Black, the central character, Piper, blames just one person for dragging her into a heroin-smuggling ring that caused both to wind up behind bars. In Piper Kerman's prison memoir, she calls the character Nora Jansen; in the series, that same villain goes by the name Alex Vause. Now Wolters, 52, is telling her own side of the story. Her memoir, Out of Orange , explains how she unwittingly became a drug mule and then grew too scared to get out. It's also an intentional retort to Kerman's version.

But, that's all the information you really get. I'm sorry her life was ruined by her poor choices and that she was unable to be with her family for so many lost years. I highly recommend this book!! However, her book looks more to how she lived prior to incarceration, which is useful only in a tangential way to the television program, though highly entertaining for readers who like backstory. She thought maybe, just maybe, Piper could be a stand in on one of their runs. Paper Plus Team Reviews. Be the first to review this product. Add to Cart. Cleary did not choose the spotlight and we never would have heard her story if not for that other orange book and TV show that prompted her to tell her side. Priscilla Herrington. Back to top. Which is exactly what they tried to do, before Piper realized she didn't want to be a part of that life.

Biography, Autobiography, Memoirs, Letters, Interviews. The story was so consumed with cats I couldn't even begin to mention how much this woman loves her cats. Kerman is the hot one, Wolters is the one with the drug money. They could start an international love affair with suitcases full of money. Overweight threshold is set at 5kgs or greater. Wolters uses a great deal of the book to explore her life as a drug smuggler, caught up in the net of an African kingpin and how she utilised her knowledge to move from mule to organiser. This is not a Piper v. I remember thinking it was strange that I hadn't seen or heard about this book until stumbling upon it ONCE in the book store and after reading a few chapters, its clear why. Her afterthought of using this story to help educate the public about how poor the living conditions are in some prison facilities and how some people who work in these facilities "lack empathy" are worthy mentions but seem disingenuous. It is inevitable that during the war on drugs this ring that imported heroin would be a big case. The money allows her to get a nicer apartment, without a roommate, and she thinks if she's frugal she may pursue writing a novel she had started in college. The majority of the book is a tell-all about how they smuggled drugs and spent their time getting drunk in other countries. Another thought I had is that in Orange is the New Black, a lot of what made it interesting and made it work was the relationships.
