The new mum is currently on the run with her baby and her year-old boyfriend Mark Gordon. Gordon, a British-born man who had moved to America with his family in , raped and assaulted a woman when he was The aristocrat eventually left the church but said she was left traumatised, and reportedly questioning her Christian faith. She met Gordon in , while Constance was in acting school, and she soon cut ties with her family and dropped out of university.

Constance Marten and Mark Gordon are a British couple who went off-grid between 5 January , when their burning car was found abandoned near Bolton , until the date of their arrest on 27 February , in Brighton. Their disappearance coincided with the birth of their daughter. When the couple were subsequently arrested, they were not with their baby, triggering a police search involving over officers across an area of around 90 sq mi km 2 extending from Brighton to Newhaven. On 1 March , the child's corpse was discovered in a shopping bag inside an allotment shed, nearby to where the couple were apprehended. Constance Marten was born into an aristocratic family in , and was privately educated at St Mary's Independent School. Both her father Napier Marten and her mother Virginie de Selliers had three sons, including her younger brother, Tobias. She had met Gordon in a London incense shop around , and they became friends while she attended East 15 Acting School , as a student.

Constance Marten and Mark Gordon will stand trial in January over the alleged manslaughter of a baby girl. The infant's remains were found in a plastic bag under nappies in a Brighton shed following a day missing persons search for the couple and their child. The couple appeared at the Old Bailey on Friday. They did not enter pleas and were remanded in custody.
