To access a nearby optional area, head back to the suspension bridge from the High Lord Wolnir bonfire, but do not cross the bridge. Instead, cut the bridge ropes on your side one swing will do it. This will make the bridge collapse, creating a ladder you can descend, leading you to another area of the catacombs. When you've reached the bottom, head down the path and into the large three-tiered room with the Demon and several skeletons. Head through the doorway at the bottom tier and take the next right to reach the next bonfire. Head past the bonfire to reach the Smouldering Lake. Grab three Large Titanite Shards around the center of the lake. Veer to the left of the lake, while being mindful of the massive ballista attacks aiming at you.
And so it ends The corpse on the other side holds an Estus Shardbut the jump is rather difficult you must wait for the last instant to jump.
Smouldering Lake is a Location in Dark Souls 3. This optional zone is the center of conflict between many ferocious creatures, with a deep labyrinth built beneath flooded with lava and fire monsters, but exploring it will reveal pyromancies and tomes from ages past. Discovering Smouldering Lake takes a bit of work. If you have defeated High Lord Wolnir, you can start from this bonfire, or make your way from the Catacombs of Carthus bonfire to the large suspension bridge. Attack the anchor point at that end of the bridge and it will collapse; once it settles, you can climb down the bridge as if it were a ladder to access the area below. Proceed until you reach the room with the large Fire Demon and Mimic up the stairs near the end of the walkway.
These lava filled ruins are accessed via a passage beneath the bell tower in Quelaag's Domain , and so it is available quite early on in the game. However, a Golden Fog Gate blocks the way near the end and hence you cannot access all the area until you place the Lordvessel. The enemies within are quite tough two of which were previously bosses, earlier in the game and it also contains three separate boss fights. It serves as the gateway to Lost Izalith , once you beat all its challenges. Cool Down - Upon entering the Demon Ruins from Quelaag's Domain through the broken wall door , you will find a bonfire surrounded by Egg Carriers , they are passive so long as you leave them alone. Walk past them, down the long stone path and you'll see that the area at the bottom is covered by the lava. So turn right at the bottom of the ramp to find a large stone arch next to the path you just came down, that leads towards a fog gate via a stone bridge. There are no enemies between you and this fog gate , so run over and go through it to enter the boss arena for the Ceaseless Discharge - the source of the lava. Travel forward and you will eventually see it lurking beyond the cliff's edge, but the battle won't begin until you either attack it or pick up the Gold-Hemmed Black Set at the end of the path, on the right.

As with Old Demon King, this entire area is optional - but it contains some good loot and a couple of key items which are very tempting for pyromancers. If you'd rather skip it, head straight on to High Lord Wolnir. Standing at the Old Demon King boss gate looking towards the ballista, look to your left and spot a ramp leading upwards.
