Based upon the eponymous Greek mythological figure , she first appeared in Pilipino Komiks issue 78, and was the first adversary of the superhero Darna. She has been featured significantly as Darna's archenemy in many adaptations of her stories in other media. Born in a rural scene, Valentina's origin story relates that she is the daughter of mortals Miguel and Doray. She was feared and hated by the town folks and the only man she ever loved, Edwardo, for her appearance.

Valentina a. Valentina is the main arch nemesis of the superheroine Darna based on the comic book of the same title Darna by Mars Ravelo. An alternate version of her, with a more sympathetic take made by Zoila in was produced by Atlas. Valentina's appearance was based on the look of the Greek mythology monster, Medusa her hair is made out of snakes that has venom she wears a Greek styled gown colored white based on the comics. In the TV adaptation of Darna in , her costume was a head dress shape of a cobra hood colored dark green and light green, red and white splashes then later on her hair turned into snakes when she raged on Darna. She comes with two set of whips that looks like a snake that has venom and can paralyze its victim. Valentina can communicate to any kind of snakes regardless of species or sizes and used it against her enemies she also has thermal senses similar to snakes which can detect hidden threats. She can also climb high places like buildings or any establishments Valentina also possesses great strength speed and agility. Valentina is a vain, sadistic villain who will do everything for the downfall of Darna she is usually portrayed as fierce, sarcastic and full of hatred.

Darna is a retooling of Ravelo's earlier character, Varga, whose stories he wrote and illustrated himself.
