In , the Arab oil embargo resulted in a spike in gas prices and even gas shortages. But you could still have plenty of fun with a few gallons of fuel in the early s, and here's just the pairing to prove it. The pair are both painted the colors of a California summer sunset, and together they make you want to head out into the desert for some fun ripping around in the dirt, and then listening to The Doobie Brothers as the stars come out. The Datsun is the star of the show, fitted as it is with some seriously groovy exterior artwork, yet a modern interior upgrade that looks straight out of Minecraft. Who would help crowdfund a venture to get vital parts made? Who would spend six years in the pursuit of perfection on a vehicle few, if anyone, in this country has heard of? Who would venture into the world of 3D-printed parts? Who would do something so complicated as their first restoration project? Moses Thompson would.

Not many Japanese pickup trucks have stood the test of time quite as well as the little Datsun As a result, they dissolved away well before their time, often leaving a perfectly reliable drivetrain behind. A strange exception to this rule is the little , somehow getting through more years than its closest rivals as well as some reliable, albeit underpowered Japanese engines keep them going forever. Design-wise it is also pretty unusual for a work vehicle to have such flowing lines, something that has also stood the test of time, and still be attractive a good 50 years down the road.
