Created as part of a collaborative dbz kale between franchise creator Akira Toriyama and Toei Animationdbz kale, the characters first appeared in the Universal Saga arc of Dragon Ball Super as antagonistic characters from an alternate universe to the setting of the Dbz kale Ball series: Kale was originally conceived as a derivative character of popular Dragon Ball villain Broly by Toei Animation staff, and Caulifla was personally designed by Toriyama [1] as a companion and counterpoint to Kale.

When Universe 7 is selecting their team, Kale is one of the foes from another Universe pictured by Old Kai. She is often looked down upon by other Saiyans of Universe 6 for her timid personality. In the manga, Kale is with Caulifla when she and her henchmen steal from the Sadala Army members who are coming through her turf, when one of the soldiers tries to shoot Caulifla in the back, Kale steals and breaks his gun so quickly that nobody saw her do so. Kale steals the pendant that Cabba took from Caulifla with such speed that nobody notices her do so and presents it to Caulifla, who tells her to give it to Cabba. Seeing Kale's true power that she hides, Cabba decides to also invite Kale to join the tournament team.

Still, despite all of these things, nothing could overtop the joy fans felt when it was confirmed that they'd be getting their first female Super Saiyans in the franchise. While she was a nice addition to the series, there's a lot about Universe 6's Legendary Super Saiyan that doesn't really make a lot of sense the more we think about it. Throughout the tournament, the Universe 11 Pride Trooper didn't waste time with a few opponents that stepped up to him, like Maji Kayo and Hit. As strong as Kale was, it would've made sense for him to send her out of the ring so that she wouldn't be a threat to any more of his comrades. There's no good reason why his attack didn't send her off the stage. Not only that, but after taking such a devastating blow from Jiren, Kale shouldn't even have been able to move much at all. In the manga, Kale was responsible for eliminating a ton of fighters. In the anime, however, her rampage didn't do nearly as much damage.

A strong fighter even before fusing with her friend Caulifla to become the significantly more powerful Kefla, Kale's initial appearance hides reserves of immense potential, making her one of the most interesting additions to the franchise. Her facial features and eye shape are more reminiscent of Caulifla's, but her complexion is a middle between both of their skin-types complexions. She wears Kale's golden armbands however they are now the same shape as Caulifla's wristbands, boots though the red part of them is replaced with the black of Caulifla's, and a purple belly shirt with form-fitting purple pants being a mixture of both of their pants from Caulifla's color scheme. In the manga, due to fusing while Kale and Caulifla were Super Saiyan, she's stuck in a permanent Super Saiyan state and does not hold her hair up in a ponytail, which remains held up in a ponytail while Super Saiyan in the anime.

Her natural endurance and resilience are also greatly increased, able to brush off most attacks without defending and remain virtually unfazed. Her feelings of jealousy towards other individuals who interact with Caulifla would emerge as a strong trigger for her to manifest an uncontrollable transformation into an immensely powerful and highly muscular Super Saiyan form, though her personality is warped into a crazed opposite of her usual self.
