Nancy Loomis is the main antagonist of Scream 2where she used the alias Debbie Salt. She was played by future Academy Award-nominee Laurie Metcalf. She posed as a local reporter to seek revenge against those responsible for killing her debbie salt, Billy.
She is the mastermind copycat Ghostface of The Windsor College Murders , which occurred sometime in in the state of Ohio. The character was previously mentioned in the original film , having abandoned her only son Billy Loomis sometime the year prior in , after discovering her husband 's affair with Maureen Prescott. After this decision, she endures enormous grief and guilt after learning of his role as a serial killer in the Woodsboro Murders which culminated in his death. Nancy then targets two Woodsboro survivors in Ohio. After losing sixty pounds and pursuing cosmetic surgery, Nancy adapted a false identity, "Debbie Salt" and enlisted Mickey Altieri , a rare find on the internet. Nancy agrees to Mickey's idea for a copycat Ghostface killing spree inspired by the original — a real-life sequel, with more brutality. With his personal desire for an infamous trial, Nancy's secretly self-interested agenda was old-fashioned revenge.

Debbie : Two birds, one stone. Did you buy that for one second? Poor boy was completely out of his mind. Sidney Prescott : And you're not? Debbie : No. I'm very sane. My motive isn't as "90s" as Mickey's. Mine is just good old fashioned revenge. You killed my son! And, now, I kill you and I can't think of anything more rational. Sidney Prescott : You're never gonna get away with this. Debbie : Oh, of course, I will. Everything's traceable back to Mickey, including the cop gun he used to kill everybody. But let's just say that you have gotten hold of the other cop's gun.
Cotton : Hey, Sidney, look I want you to know that I would never, ever do anything to hurt you. Loomis in a high-pitched, debbie salt, sotto voice in stall] I don't - I didn't mean it.

Although "Scream 2" was mostly well-received back in , audiences had one major complaint: the killer reveals were far more underwhelming than they were the first time around. Some of this was unavoidable; the first film's big twist was less the killers themselves than the fact that there were two of them, so it could afford to make both Billy Loomis and Stu seem sketchy as hell without giving too much away. The possibility of two killers had not been forgotten, so screenwriter Kevin Williamson had to come up with a different approach for its two big reveals. Loomis Laurie Metcalf — two characters who didn't make a huge impression on audiences pre-reveal. Upon rewatch, it's clear that Mrs. Loomis was indeed a constant presence throughout the film, showing up often enough to make her reveal feel earned, but Mickey? He was barely in the second half of the movie at all, and his scenes in the first half were few and far between. Add on the fact that Mickey and Debbie Salt never interacted pre-reveal making it pretty much impossible for any viewers to guess their partnership , it makes sense that the urban legend of rewrites about the killer has been taken as truth in recent years. The big, behind-the-scenes story that still gets passed around is that the script originally had Hallie Elise Neal and Derek Jerry O'Connell as the two killers, but after the script was leaked online, the writers rewrote it to maintain the element of surprise. It's an eye-catching piece of false trivia, as Hallie and Derek would've made for a way more shocking reveal than what we got.

Scream 2 's ending features a blood-soaked climax packed with deaths, revelations, and twists. While the original film ends with Sidney managing to dispatch the killers, the second finds her in more dire circumstances. Scream 2 follows in the tradition of killer reveals set up in the original Scream , with some key differences. The film continues the trend of Ghostface being revealed as two different characters. One killer is motivated by a personal connection to Sidney, while the other is motivated by simple bloodlust.
