We learned — only order one slice of flan. These are huge! Enough for two people to share; the slices are extremely tall. The excitement to try something new and different, and the opportunity to meet locals and hear their stories interests us more than cookie cutter franchises. The flan is huge, made daily, and displayed in a case near the front of the restaurant. You can see the espresso machine in the background!

Ordered the cuban sammi and it was good, large portions. The pork was a little dry to me and I, personally, like a little more sauce on it but it was very good. The empanadas were good and tasty, one was so full of oil it may of been refried. Server was nice. February My wife and I stopped by for breakfast yesterday. We met the owners who were super friendly and attentive to service. The food was great! We really enjoyed the chicken empanadas and croquettes. The Cuban coffee was also delicious. Definitely worth a try if you are in Key Largo. January Been wanted a Cuban sandwich and on they drive to Key West, saw this place right off the highway! Great sandwich, actually one of the best ones I have tasted and large serving size and added an order of papas fritas and also very good.

A once struggling Cuban cafe in Key Largo has renewed energy and some family flavor, under owners who took over the establishment more than one year ago. Much work has gone over the past year to uplift a cafe serving con leches, coffees and Cuban fare to the community and visitors for 35 years and counting. The Garcias are no strangers to the Keys, as Rafael said his parents retired and moved to the island chain more than 25 years ago. Rafael and Erin went right to work fixing processes, cleaning, replacing refrigeration and giving the restaurant a face lift with new tables and chairs. Rafael was also busy adding some family recipes to the menu. I have an uncle who really motivated me in that way and gave me recipes. Not only has he upgraded and renovated the cafe, but he also managed to keep all employees while hiring a few more.
