The smaller stages at local establishments like The Plus and The Lakely contribute to the performing arts community by hosting open mic nights and live music events throughout the year. Explore all of the venues that make Eau Claire an astounding location to appreciate the arts! Today, I witnessed artwork from all shapes, sizes, and styles. After making a few stops throughout the art trail, I left envying all of the talent and patience these local artists have. I highly suggest attending this event. Eau Claire is home to an awesome independent standup comedy scene, much of it catalyzed by a Clear Water Comedy, a collective of local comics. Much of their activity has centered on The Plus on South Barstow Street, which hosted a Tuesday night open mic and a Thursday night comedy showcase. And while The Plus has been closed since the beginning of the pandemic, the Clear Water gang has recently begun to promote shows and perform at other venues, including The Grand Theatre. With The Plus promising to reopen eventually, it seems local comedians will be giving us something to laugh about in and beyond. Eau Claire Downtown Cinema shows movies a little after everyone else in town, but at a budget price. Use those savings to buy a pizza or something else from their menu!

The study of theatre arts at UW-Eau Claire provides students with an outstanding liberal arts education and fosters the development and appreciation of theatre as a significant art form. Theatre students begin their training immediately at UW-Eau Claire, working in a disciplined group effort under real-life pressures and deadlines to develop fully realized productions for campus and community audiences. Theatre at UW-Eau Claire is both an academic and extracurricular activity. Auditions and participation are open to any UW-Eau Claire student! There are numerous ways to be involved and share in creating art that presents the wildly swinging pendulum of human experience.
