Created by Frank Millerthe character first appeared in Daredevil Jan. The character is a highly trained assassin of Greek descent who wields a pair of sai as her trademark weapons, elektra natchios. Elektra is one of Frank Miller's best-known creations, and has appeared in numerous modern storylines even though Marvel had originally promised not to revive elektra natchios character without Miller's permission. Miller initially based the character's appearance on Lisa Lyona female bodybuilder.

Elektra once defined herself by the men in her life: She was the daughter of a powerful Greek diplomat and the girlfriend of blind American law student Matt Murdock. Her father's assassination, however, left her emotionally shattered, and she withdrew from the world. Her choice led her to Japan, where she attempted to penetrate the secret fraternity of martial artists known as the Chaste. Befriended by the organization's leader, Stick, Elektra honed her fighting skills. However, Stick saw that her hatred of the world was all-consuming and ultimately asked her to leave the Chaste.

After her mother's death, Elektra grew up close to her father but was plagued by visions and voices with no known source. She reacted to them through self-harm. Her father eventually sent her away for psychotherapy. As she grew up, her father insisted that she train in martial arts. She was 10 when she started training, and, at the time, her sensei mocked her, saying she was just a "little rich girl wasting daddy's money". Two years later, however, she had far exceeded his expectations and he had nothing else to teach her, so he told her about the Chaste , a group of warriors led by the mysterious Stick who studied and trained to master the art of combat. Nonetheless, she kept training and caught the attention of The Hand , more specifically a young woman named Aka. Unlike Stick, Aka listened to Elektra and pretended to care for her, thus gaining her loyalty. Elektra's father was later appointed Greek ambassador to the United States , and Elektra moved with him across the Atlantic, where she started attending Columbia University , the same university as the young Matt Murdock. She kept dropping articles of clothing as a trail to tease him, but didn't let herself get caught.

Seeing that he was still struggling, elektra natchios, Elektra told Daredevil to slow his breathe and focus, promising that he would find them, although Daredevil claimed there elektra natchios too much noise for him to concentrate on hearing a specific voice in the city. The two would be joined by the Black Widow who would be suspicious and antagonistic towards Elektra also unaware that it was a Skrull impostor.

However there are numerous facts which remain constant about her. She comes from a privileged life from a wealthy Greek family this is occasionally depicted as a Cypriot family. Her father was a powerful man known as Hugo Natchios and his wife was Christina Natchios. Her mother died shortly after giving birth to her, but the nature of her death has changed in different incarnations. At the age of 20, Elektra was held hostage by a group of terrorists alongside her diplomat father. In the ensuing chaos of the standoff Hugo is killed.

She fell in love with Matt Murdock during a mission for Stick to bring Murdock into the organization. She returned to his life after years of absence, putting her beliefs and methods at conflict with his own. Later, she was revealed to potentially be the Black Sky , the one who is supposed to lead the Hand. However, Elektra chose to help Murdock defeat the malevolent organization and was killed in the final fight with Nobu Yoshioka. The Hand then retrieved Elektra's corpse from the grave and placed it in a stone chamber to be exposed to the Resurrection Elixir. Alexandra Reid manipulated a resurrected Elektra and took her under her wing, re-training her to truly become the Black Sky and the Hand's most lethal weapon.

Unwilling to part with one of its most talented operatives, the Hand attempted to resurrect Elektra and place her fully under their control through a magic ritual. Although Elektra appeared distressed by watching the earthquake, Reid reassured her by gently touching her face and claiming that New York was nothing more than a city, and they would get used to watching them all collapse, which had seemed to comfort Elektra as they smiled together. However, Elektra's rage at being hit gave her a newfound strength as she then furiously fought back and subdued the Hand warrior, much to Reid's satisfaction. Elektra survived, but it cost her an eye and was paralyzed.

In an effort to keep people from getting footage of the event, Leader causes a massive video blackout, and then Elektra leads him away from the action; Orestez manages to get away during the fight between Rulk and the Crimson Dynamo units.
