Emory dermatology
The Emory Dermatology training program focuses on training a diverse cohort of future dermatologists who aspire to become local, regional, or international leaders in the field of dermatology. Our mission is to support and train our residents to achieve the maximum potential of excellence in patient care through service, education, research, and advocacy. Graduates will be poised to provide competent and compassionate dermatologic care to all patients with dignity, respect, and professionalism. Our program is a part of the Emory University School of Medicine, a leading academic medical center in the Southeast. Rotations are one month in duration. During 1st year, most of the rotations are based in outpatient clinics, rotating through the Emory Clinic, Grady Memorial Hospital, and the Atlanta VA Medical Center, in addition to rotating through teledermatology at the VA. In the second half of the year, each 1st-year resident spends 1 month on the inpatient consult service at the Emory University Hospital. During 3rd year, residents continue to rotate through the outpatient clinics at Grady and the VA but also participate in 2 months of dedicated surgery rotations, 2 months of dedicated dermatopathology rotations, and 2 months of inpatient teledermatology consult service at Emory Midtown. Residents have 5 to 6 hours of didactic time each week, comprised of sessions given by faculty, visiting lecturers, and residents. Didactic sessions include dermatology core curriculum lectures, dermatopathology scope sessions, grand rounds, and journal club. Didactics take place every Tuesday morning from 8am to 9am and Thursday mornings from 8am to noon. Via Emory GME, there are many unique opportunities to collaborate and participate in specialized training tracks, such as tracks focusing on ethics, health care management, global health and more. Residents at Emory are part of a patient care team that provides excellent patient care in busy clinical settings. Amongst the patient care activities, residents are allotted on average 1 academic half-day per week in addition to the dedicated Thursday morning didactics. These academic half-days allow for the pursuit of academic endeavors outside of the clinic and promote resident wellness.
