Can it satisfy our longing for a fulfilling conclusion to this epic of detection and character observation? He comes from the ingenious brain of Russell Lewis, the prolific scribe who wrote every Endeavour episode, so he had yet to be invented when the original series was airing. Thursday stabbed the young man to protect his son, Sam Jack Bannon , returning to the series after leading the cast of Pennyworth for three seasons. Thursday can never see Morse again. That turn of events will give added poignancy to anyone now watching Inspector Morse which streams on BritBox. Decades later, the woman Morse loved so much is still nearby. References to the original series were numerous, and clever.

June Morse investigates a death notice in the Oxford Mail which appeared shortly before the person mentioned actually died in what initially looks to have been an accident, and finds a link with an earlier death which was not treated as suspicious. This leads him to an undertaker's, forcing him to confront his own mortality. Fred Thursday, looking set to move to Carshall Newtown, finds himself having to deal with more trouble from his past, at a time when he has trouble enough in the present, leading him to resort to desperate measures to protect his family.
