This article is about the th Training Corps graduate. For the Marley officer of the same name, see Eren Kruger.
When Attack on Titan first began, one of the defining traits of its protagonist Eren Yeager, was his intense hatred for all Titans which manifested as a need to wipe every last one of them off the face of the planet. Following the horrific death of his mother and the destruction of his home during the Fall of Wall Maria, Eren was left completely shell-shocked by how much his life had changed in less than a day. Helpless before the Titans, Eren could only watch as his world crumbled around him. This sense of helplessness manifested as a blind rage that would propel him forward, through many of his exploits in Attack on Titan. In his anger, Eren vowed to eradicate every last Titan in retribution for what they had done to him and his family, and he was constantly driven by this singular aim throughout his training as a soldier. When the story came full circle and Eren became the enemy of all humanity beyond the Walls after commencing the Rumbling, it seemed as if he had lost sight of his initial goal.

Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan is one of the best-selling manga series in history, with over million copies sold to date. Fortunately, the anime adaptation of the manga series enjoys the same popularity for its dystopian future and profound character arcs. Eren Yeager is the main protagonist of Attack on Titan and perhaps the series' most complex character. His character growth and the shift from an eager young man to an anti-hero who shapes the future are outstanding, albeit devastating for the world. Eren's childhood trauma, combined with what he faces in the field against the Titans, plays an undeniable role in his resilient personality. Each Titan has its own abilities, especially the Founding Titan, who is practically a god-like figure in Isayama's dark fantasy world. The sheer violence engendered by Eren after he activated the Rumbling is an apocalyptic nightmare. That said, the world would have probably been a safer place had it not been for the Founding Titan. As such, we've updated this article with some more relevant information. The history of the Founding Titans is filled with blood and political backstabbing and dates back as far as two thousand years. It all started with Ymir Fritz, a slave fleeing the atrocities of the Eldians. In her attempt to escape from being hunted down like an animal as punishment, she comes across a strange tree with an opening. Trying to hide, she fell into an underground water cave and came across an unknown alien-like creature with a spine. Ymir bonded with the creature and transformed into the first Titan. Ymir came out of the tree bestowed with incredible abilities, and that's when King Fritz developed the plan to exploit her powers by marrying her.

Everyone in the Attack On Titan universe is irrevocably changed throughout the series, experiencing hardship and loss around every turn, and having their hopes crushed even further anytime it looks like there's a shred of hope. This is especially true for Eren Yeager, who's set on a path of revenge the day his mother's killed by a Titan, and who ends up inciting the Rumbling and wiping out all but twenty percent of the entirety of Earth's human population. Eren dramatically changes throughout Attack On Titan, going from a hot-headed kid with starry-eyed ideals about reclaiming humanity from the Titans to knowing what the grim, inevitable future is and spiraling because of it. During this drastic transformation, Eren is pivotal to many of Attack On Titan's most memorable and impactful scenes, from the first time he transforms into the Attack Titan to the moment he steps past the point of no return and ignites the Rumbling. After Eren narrowly saves Armin from being eaten by a Titan, Eren is swallowed himself, and it looks like he'll slowly meet his end inside the Titan's stomach before unlocking dormant powers he was previously unaware of.
While Attack on Titan has always had a large, layered plot filled with secrets and hidden agendas, none have ever been as shocking as former hero Eren's sudden shift into full-on antagonist mode. Despite the surprise, this change has actually been a long time coming, with Eren's machinations having been in motion since the end of Season 3. However, given that we are rarely in Eren's head, his actions can seem to come out of nowhere. And with all the lore that has been added in the final season, it can be hard to keep up with how all the revelations add up to the current state of affairs. Now that his final goal has been revealed - and his ultimate move set in motion with seemingly nothing left that can stop it - here's a breakdown of Eren's plan from his perspective, giving context to all of his seemingly out of the blue actions that should show that it was actually a cohesive, coherent scheme.
