A city whose Basque name means star. Like the ones in the Milky Way that guided the pilgrims as they walked. And you can feel the Way of St James everywhere here, with all its pilgrims, symbols, bridges, churches and palaces. And its Jewish quarter, which surrounds the entire city, was the third in importance after those of Tudela and Pamplona. Palace of the Monarchs of Navarre. This church is located on the left bank of the River Ega, in the district of San Miguel, built in the second half of the 12th century and home to both Franks and Navarrese residents. One of its finest features is the north portal , which is truly representative of late Romanesque sculpture, with Christ in Majesty on the tympanum, surrounded by the symbols of the Four Evangelists, and the Virgin and St John interceding at the Judgement.

Autonomous Community of Navarre. This town, crossed by the river Ega, has a medieval old town where the Roman and Gothic constructions are a testimony to its historic splendour. Its position on the Pilgrim's Route to Santiago de Compostela and the fact that it became the site of the royal court, contributed to its economic prosperity throughout the entire Middle Ages. Typically medieval streets lead us to Romanesque architectural gems. Semicircular arches, vegetable and representational decoration lead us to the decorated capital of its cloister, a beautiful spot for strolling and taking in the excellent execution of the biblical scenes. It is a delightful example of Romanesque civil architecture, singular because of its rarity. Its other capitals have typically Cistercian vegetable decoration. It currently houses the Gustavo de Maeztu Museum. One of the representative Romanesque main fronts is to be found in the church of San Miguel. A Flemish Gothic carving of San Miguel and a reredos from the 18 th century are some of the key points inside.
