For the organization's history as a European team, see Evil Geniuses. In late to the start of , Team EG had started looking for a roster to support in the League of Legends scene. With former Cloud9 Academy top laner Kumo and ex-C9 support Zeyzal filling out the roster, Evil Geniuses were competitive to begin the Spring Split but seemed unlikely to seriously contend in the standings. On the public relations side, the team was more successful, attracting a lot of attention with their unique "Evil" branding. After a record over the first six weeks, the team turned a corner, and went over the remainder of the season to finish in a three-way tie for second place with Thieves and FlyQuest. Seeded into the final round of the ensuing tiebreaker, EG defeated Thieves to secure the higher seed going into playoffs. There, they were seeded into the winner's bracket of the new LCS playoff format and defeated FlyQuest , only to lose to eventual champions Cloud9 in the next round.
