F 16 variants
The details of the F variants, along with major modification programs and derivative designs significantly influenced by the F, are described below. The first YF f 16 variants rolled out at Fort Worth on 13 December and accidentally accomplished its first flight on 21 Januaryfollowed by its scheduled "first flight" on 2 February
Both engines are rated at 29,lbs of thrust kN. FC , is an early FC Block LMTAS photo. This version first appeared in late Production of this version is still ongoing and will be expanded well beyond with the latest aircraft delivered to Greece and Israel. The radar has a programmable signal processor that employs very high-speed integrated circuit VHSIC technology.

This chapter provides a description of F variants. The first three blocks featured only minor changes. Block 1 featured a black nose radome and nose RWR antenna cover, which made the aircraft too easy to spot and recognize, so Block 5 went to a gray radome and RWR antenna cover. Block 10 featured minor internal changes, such as modified wiring. Block 1 and Block 5 aircraft were brought up to Block 10 spec from through Incidentally, although traditionally block numbers were designated by a suffix to an aircraft's normal designation, for example "FA", for whatever reasons the Air Force refuses to use this format, and always refers to an "FA Block 15". The more compact form is a useful "shorthand", but it's not officially approved. There are also "sub-blocks" or "miniblocks", such as "Block 50A", "Block 50B", and so on, but since these only refer to minor changes they will not be detailed in this document. The new "big tail" improved stability, and permitted faster take-off rotation, as well as flight at higher angles of attack. Most earlier aircraft in service were updated to the same specification. The Block 15 MLU upgrade featured:.

Designed as an air superiority day fighter , it evolved into a successful all-weather multirole aircraft with over 4, built since Air Force, improved versions are being built for export. The pod is mounted on the starboard intake hardpoint and contains a super-sensitive receiver that detects, classifies, and ranges threats and passes the information to the HARM and to the cockpit displays. The CCV YF design featured twin pivoting ventral fins mounted vertically underneath the air intake, and its triply redundant fly-by-wire FBW flight control system FCS was modified to permit use of flaperons on the wings' trailing edges which would act in combination with an all-moving stabilator. Also it has a rectangular air intake split in two, and canards instead of horizontal stabilisers. Retrieved 6 June

The fuel system was redesigned to enable adjustment of the aircraft's center of gravity by transferring fuel from one tank to another. TFN is the designation for the dual seat model. The test flights demonstrated that the tanks had surprisingly little impact on the aircraft's handling. Preliminary design studies began in , and the Indigenous Defense Fighter IDF program was launched two years later. In parallel with the technical upgrades, the US F fleet has been run through an ongoing "service life extension program SLEP " as time accumulates on their airframes, with the SLEP providing structural refurbishment to make sure they can keep on flying. Beginning in , these aircraft began to be replaced by newer FC variants. The F-2 is also larger but that is less obvious. The F Low-Observable Axisymmetric Nozzle LOAN demonstrator was an FC fitted in late with a prototype nozzle with significantly reduced radar and infrared signatures and lowered maintenance requirements. First flight of an F-2A occurred on 12 October , and production aircraft deliveries began on 25 September Retrieved 6 November Global Security. An FC that had been used as a GE F demonstrator was further modified as the FES demonstrator, performing its first flight in November and conducting a series of test flights into early Los CFT ofrecen 2. Common to all FA versions is the base of the vertical fin, including the dorsal fin, that gradually becomes wider from front to rear.
