Asked by DrShloickerstein , May 8, I've discovered a very strange issue with companions in Fallout 3. As I add items to their inventory, they eventually reach their carry weight cap as usual and I can no longer add items. However, if I then reenter their inventory, I can continue adding items for a while again until they hit another limit. Sometimes this can take a few attempts. Repeating this effectively gives them infinite carry weight. I forced my companion's carry weight to with the 'forceav' command and then started this process by adding items to their inventory; each time I hit a new limit I would check their carry weight using 'getav' and it will have increased.

This consists of firing your current companion, hiring Clover and rehiring your previous companion before the recently bought one starts conversation with you. If you had him as a companion prior to the Raven Rock quests, he will wait at The Muddy Rudder in Rivet City and join you without karma requirements. However, during the quest at Raven Rock all your previous followers will disappear. Wait for Fawkes to kill the Enclave soldiers and walk towards you, then fast travel away from the location.
