Fido overal reception seems quite a bit worse compared to Rogers. That drains battery faster and probably impacts the speed as well. The area where I live, often I an getting a 4 reception on Rogers and reception on Fido. This is regardless of deveice because I already switched severla devices over time. Your experience isn't uncommon, but most people probably won't notice it. There's this thing called "network prioritization".

With the upcoming iPhone release from both Telus and Bell , I thought it would be interesting to take a look at the network coverage provided by all the carriers in Canada. While company coverage maps are by no means meant to measure actual network coverage, since often times they are not entirely accurate, the maps are the best resource customers and observers have. While the coverage looks quite good overall, the map is not very meaningful on its own. Click images to enlarge. Between Rogers, Telus, and Bell, the two latter companies offer more coverage in more areas. For an obvious example, look at Newfoundland. However, performance will often depend on your location, as all carriers have good and bad areas.
Rogers, Bell and Telus are the 3 network operators that own and operate nationwide telecom networks in Canada. These sibling brands all connect to the same, nationwide network owned and operated by their parent company. Other providers that own and operate their own networks include Freedom Mobile — which has coverage in urban areas across Canada — and regional providers SaskTel in Saskatchewan and Quebecor Videotron in Quebec and Ottawa. Plan prices are actually cheaper in these regions due to the added competition of a 4th provider. Due to this market concentration, there is limited competition, causing Canadian phone plans to be some of the most expensive in the world. While there are providers in Canada see the complete list none are fully independent of the three national networks: Bell, Rogers and Telus. Each tier is targeted at a different different type of customer, but the options in each tier typically provide almost identical plans at almost identical prices with only small differences in features and reward structures.

If Koodo can offer the same 5G service as their parent company, with competitive options at identical and in some cases better prices compared to Fido, it begs for an answer to the question of why Fido can't do that too, and to why should I stay with Fido. To use the Internet for email, maps and more, just make sure data roaming is turned on in your device settings. If you can't compete with Koodo in offering 5G, and your prices on phones and services are the same, can you give me any tangible and compelling reasons for why I should stay with Fido and not fully make the switch to Koodo? Network prioritization is when an ISP assigns different levels of importance to different types of traffic using different techniques. I've been a Fido customer for 12 years, have 5 lines with Fido, and I'm looking to upgrade 3 phones on 3 of those lines. Rogers is fine here in Ontario, nothing wrong with it. A higher prioritised level might have access to faster data speeds than lower levels. No one is trying to deny the OP's observations or even convince them it isn't happening. That could account for some of the issues you note.
