Fionna previously spelled Fiona and also known as Fionna the Human is a fictional character and the gender-swapped version of Fiona the human who was created by the Ice King in his fanfiction, fiona the human. She was created by series character designer Natasha Allegri in a series of web comics and drawings. She and the other gender-swapped characters appeared occasionally in their own segment of the show.

The idea for "Fionna the Human" and "Cake the Cat" evolved from drawings that Adventure Time character designer and storyboard revisionist Natasha Allegri had posted online during the show's earliest seasons. In these episodes, Ice King shares stories about Fionna and Cake he made, who are in fact characters from modern shows; when he sleeps, a beam projects to his head to transport ideas of the fan-fiction.
