Bligh Tanner were responsible for all upfront investigations of the existing building including inspecting the existing structure to determine if the heritage building could accommodate the proposed renovations and modified floor loadings. Internally, demolition works were conducted to allow for a new void area creating a full height atrium in the main entrance. The civil and structural team at Bligh Tanner helped us create a new piece of public realm where a sensitive, minimal and seamless outcome was fundamental to the success of the project. The chief sculptor who began to sculpt the sandstone carvings in was John Theodore Muller, working in partnership with Frederick James McGowen. The friezes around the Law Entrance depict secondary industries that were considered important to Queensland at the time the campus was planned. Printing, brewing and engineering are depicted on the left-hand frieze. The right-hand frieze depicts sugar milling, machinery for making rope and twine, along with organbuilding - despite the fact that the manufacture of organs was not a big industry. The frieze is actually a collage of images from two or more photographs taken around inside the workshop of Whitehouse Bros at Musgrave Road, Red Hill.
