Gency is a popular ship due to the characters' shared history. Their friendly in-game interactions also fuel peoples' love of the ship. Another reason some people do not approve of the ship is because Genji and Mercy formerly had a doctor-patient relationship. The conflict of interest is sometimes enough to make some feel that the ship is inappropriate.
