It looks like we're ready for a new Ghost era, as Papa Emeritus IV has played his final show with the band. But unlike past eras of the band, this Papa Emeritus simply retired without some grand theatrical farewell. As seen in fan shot footage below, Papa Emeritus IV addressed the crowd toward the end of the band's final show of their touring cycle in Brisbane, Australia earlier this month. It has long been tradition that the Ghost band leader has often been removed in surprising fashion on the final date of the tour, often with a successor emerging and giving leader Tobias Forge a new storyline to play with as a new album and tour cycle is broached. I usually don't do that, but that is to make me feel a little bit better because now I'm focusing on that and not on you. But you know what? This finale, it's just going to be my last show, and I'm going to do my best to deliver that show to you.

He is stated to be the first frontman to not be a part of the Emeritus bloodline , though it is heavily implied he is the bastard son of Papa Nihil and Sister Imperator. He was the frontman for three albums. As such, his appearances have changed a considerable amount between the two cycles. Some fans have speculated that his mask in particular is inspired by the face of late American actor Vincent Price due to their similarities, although Tobias himself has said Copia is a "mix of Dracula and Jacques Clouseau " [1] [2] [3]. His mask has medium-length dark brown hair, usually combed back although initially combed to the side and prominent sideburns, alongside a pencil mustache. His first official appearance featured him in a black Cardinal outfit with an accompanying hat. His face paint, unlike previous frontmen of the band, was minimal, only covering his eyes. This denoted his junior status and that he was yet to "deserve his skull paint" [4]. He has also been stated as being "the more limber of all of [the Papas]" [5]. Copia has several outfits: He has a cassock and accompanying biretta that comes in both black and red variants, a black and red dressed down outfit, and a similar white tuxedo that comes with a hat. Occasionally, he wears a cape alongside his black dressed down outfit. Once anointed Papa Emeritus IV, his appearance changed yet again. His minimal facepaint is now gone in place of the more extensive and "traditional" skull facepaint of the Papas before him, and he has now earned a new blue chasuble and mitre, along with a black cope an ornamented liturgical cape. All his outfits so far have been designed by B. This drastic change in appearance for both characters is explained in-universe as a "two-for-one" plastic surgery.

Looking forward to seeing all of you in Last October, Forge confirmed to U. It will be the fourth Papa Emeritus. But who that is, we don't know yet. Forge did not indicate where the standalone song will surface, but he added that he'll continue writing through May, with plans to enter the studio on June 1. He remarked: "Hopefully then we're gonna start recording the drums for all these 15 songs — something like that — I'm gonna write.

Whatever Twitter is calling itself these days is buzzing with concerned Ghost fans fearing the worst. Brilliantly, there are as many people on stage tonight as there are in Slipknot : Forge plus eight ghouls, including three guitarists, two keyboard players and a black-clad, batwinged backing vocalist who twists, twirls and bashes her tambourine like an undead Stevie Nicks. Part needy, Ritalin-starved teenager, part unlikely sex symbol who prompts orgiastic screams from contingents of the crowd with every flouncing flick of the wrist, he prances and preens around the stage, channelling the ghosts of Freddie Mercury and vintage Willy Wonka. It's a slice of showbiz genius that never gets old. The second is the small b-stage at the opposite end of the floor, tricked out with baby grand piano. Will Cardinal Copia be bumped off for a new, unknown entity? Is this the start of a brand new chapter for Ghost? The simple answer is: no. He lives to dance another day.
