Located next to the Grand Villa Casino in Burnaby, there is plenty of free parking in the nearby lot. Unlike some dim sum joints, this restaurant looked rather refined by comparison.

It was a special occasion, so my parents, boyfriend and I decided to try a different and more upscale Chinese restaurant for dim sum. A good thing about this place is that there is lots of free parking! But we wanted to try this place, so we waited and looked at the menu. It actually ended up only being a 20 minute wait so yay! Garlic shrimp spring rolls: The garlic shrimp spring rolls were so tasty! The shrimp inside was fresh, bouncy and plump. There was also a good amount of garlic inside. The spring roll shell itself was fresh and crunchy. Shrimp dumpling: A classic dim sum dish. Again, the shrimp and veggies inside tasted fresh. However, we found it to be a bit smaller than average so that was a bit disappointing. But I was told that this is the traditional way of serving it.
The long Green Beans were enticingly spicy and had a good crunch to them. The dinnerware actually matched and all of the seatcovers appeared to be clean. It actually ended up only being a 20 minute wait so yay!
My recent visit to San Francisco has once again proved that, it is hard to find good Cantonese food elsewhere in North America matching what we have in Greater Vancouver. But they seem to have solved the issue by borrowing the space in their sister Japanese restaurant next door for the overflowing Dim Sum goers. Everything about this dish was spot-on including the colour, the texture, and the taste. I love the bright green bits of watercress that makes it so pretty to look at, and so darn delicious with the extra freshness and sweetness. As the use of seafood is predominant in Cantonese cuisine, shrimp is probably the most common ingredient in Dim Sum. I really enjoyed all of their dishes with shrimp, such as Har Gow shrimp dumpling , Shrimp Spring Roll and Fun Guo Chiuchow Style Dumling as the shrimps in them have that snappy crunch indicating how fresh and perfectly cooked they are.

J-doug One of my favourite dimsum places to visit when I'm in the Burnaby area. The main dining area was full so we were seated on the Shoto Izakaya Japanese restaurant side. It's much quieter and a better location if you want some decent conversation with your fellow diners. Unfortunately their booths are far from comfortable. The table is too far away from the seat and the back is super straight. Apart from ergonomics, the dimsum is made with care and some thought have been put to the bring in unique dishes. The shumai was made well with just the right amount of texture.
