When it comes to Japanese music, one of the most iconic sounds is that of the tsugaru-jamisen. Since the late legendary greats like Gunpachiro Shirakawa and Takahashi Chikuzan , there have been numerous talented tsugaru-jamisen musicians from Hiromitu Amagatsu and the Yoshida Brothers to the Shibata Siblings and Chie Hanawa , but some of the most interesting figures are the members of the international group Monsters of Shamisen. While you can easily find musicians playing traditional songs or performing entirely modern music on the instrument, the group felt that there were not nearly enough folks writing new music for the tsugaru-jamisen as an ensemble instrument. Though, to be fair, he was already an accomplished guitarist and cellist with a degree in music when he first started playing the three-stringed Japanese instrument. Despite his late start with the instrument, Kevin went on to become the first non-Japanese person to win awards in numerous shamisen competitions around Japan. Though Kevin has been playing for well over a decade and posted hundreds of videos to YouTube, one video has recently captured the attention Japanese Internet users—a cover of the famous Doraemon theme song—even though the video is six years old!

An alternative explanation is that Lady Green Sleeves was, through her costume, incorrectly assumed to be sexually promiscuous. Her "discourteous" rejection of the singer's advances supports the contention that she is not. In Nevill Coghill 's translation of The Canterbury Tales , [10] he explains that "green [for Chaucer's age] was the colour of lightness in love. This is echoed in 'Greensleeves is my delight' and elsewhere. Christmas and New Year texts were associated with the tune from as early as , and by the 19th century almost every printed collection of Christmas carols included some version of words and music together, most of them ending with the refrain "On Christmas Day in the morning". The romanesca originated in Spain [13] and is composed of a sequence of four chords with a simple, repeating bass , which provide the groundwork for variations and improvisation.
