At that time, its specification was perfectly acceptable for a performance machine - all-enclosing bodywork, a valve engine and monoshock rear suspension put it on a par with its peer group. Only the slightly bland styling marked the GSX out from its competitors. By , the GSXF had been relegated to a more pedestrian budget sports tourer role. However, Suzuki gave it a wheels-up makeover anyway. The former 'jellymould' styling was radically altered, but was still not to every rider's taste. The engine and carburation received internal modifications to produce improved low and mid-range power production, at the cost of some top-end power. And a new stainless steel exhaust resists corrosion, while improving power. The engine uses a combination of oil and air cooling. A high-capacity oil pump circulates engine oil through a large oil radiator to cool the engine internals, while fins on the cylinder block also remove heat. Suzuki claims this saves weight over a liquid-cooled engine, while remaining more efficient than an air-cooled design. Compared with modern sports machines, the GSX will disappoint. The brakes are indifferent, while the low pegs reduce ground clearance and soon drag on the ground during committed cornering. The engine's lack of sophistication shows in its harsh, rewy power delivery, and it feels underpowered compared with more modern designs. However, the GSXF makes an acceptable budget tourer.

As a cheap alternative to sporty s it sold well but when the budget class came of age with bikes like the Fazer and SV the Suzuki GSXF bowed out gracefully. The Suzuki GSXF is no track machine, where its weight and relatively soft and cheap suspension will limit fun after that first fun track day. Rear Wheel Travel. With the help of a six-speed manual transmission, the bike reached a top speed of kph mph. I love it. The carbs need to be babied eveey once in awhile as they tend to get clogged in midwestern weather. In the eyes of an experienced rider and well accommodated with the GSXF Katana model, it was easy to observe which bike was manufactured after because the newly released model was the first that featured a single "S" emblem instead of the whole written Suzuki logo. The attractive stainless steel four-in-one exhaust system tuned for enhanced low and mid-range performance featured a catalyzer just for the Californian model for lower emissions. I expect I'll have outgrown it in a year of so, but until then it suits me fine. Takes corners fantastically even with lowering the front end via the forks. For stopping power, the Suzuki GSXF Katana packed a couple of two-piston calipers with two mm discs on the front wheel and a single mm disc with a two-piston caliper on the rear wheel. Brakes always stopped great, but compared to more serious sports bikes and some of the things I have ridden recently it's fair to say that they could be better. The design cues remained the same, with minor updates that made the bike stand in line with its modern counterparts, such as the iconic dual-oval headlights and the matching side vents were still the unmistakable trademark of the GSXF Katana. Although there are faster prettier and more trendier bikes out there I can say that I loved every minute of ownership and riding. The bike's particular forte is comfort and although it is perhaps at the less powered end of the market, I still find the bike exciting. Only the slightly bland styling marked the GSX out from its competitors. Rear Wheel. Engine 4 out of 5 The engine runs well and in every day traffic is great giving good pulling power for overtaking and making progress, happy to sit at higher speeds all day with no vibration, makes a great howl higher up the rev range. The chassis consisted of a double cradle steel pipe frame dressed in an aerodynamic bodywork with fairings designed for reduced drag force. If you are planning on keeping the same bike for many years then buy the Fairing keeps wind off and comfy seat. The bike gets a bit vibey above rpm, but the gearbox is super smooth so its easy to keep it below that if you want to.
