I have drilled out the old threads using the supplied HSS Drill, but the supplied Tap seems way too big the taper end is bigger than the drilled hole.

Add threads to holes in preparation for installing helical inserts. Inserts come with a through-hole tap and installation tool. Assortments include various sizes of helical inserts and a tap, a drill bit, and an installation tool for each thread size. Made of Nitronic 60 stainless steel, these inserts prevent the screw from binding or sticking without any coating or lubricant that could contaminate particle-free environments. A dry film keeps the screw from sticking or binding in these inserts during installation. Eliminating the need for primer, these inserts are coated to resist corrosion when installed in different materials. These inserts have a high strength-to-weight ratio and resist acids and salt water better than nickel alloy and stainless steel inserts. Made of nickel alloy, these inserts are more resistant to acids and salt water than stainless steel inserts. A distorted thread grips the screw to resist loosening. Without a prong to break off and retrieve, these inserts are often used where debris could cause damage.

They have a large diameter but the same pitch as a standard tap in order to accommodate the Recoil Inserts. Spiral Point and Spiral Flute machine taps are also available. For all spark plug applications pilot nose taps are available. The Recoil thread inserts when installed into a correctly tapped hole will provide the applicable internal thread tolerance for the installed bolt. Thread Class Unified Thread Class In the unified thread system, the minimum pitch diameter for a 2B hole medium fit or 3B hole close fit are the same, while the maximum pitch diameter is greater on the 2B hole medium fit. Recoil taps for unified threads are made to a 3B hole close fit tolerance. Metric Thread Class In the metric thread system the minimum pitch diameter for a 5H hole medium fit or 4H5H hole close fit are the same, while the maximum pitch diameter is greater on the 5H hole medium fit.
The tapped hole must be held within the stated pitch diameter limits for the required class of fit for the installed Heli-Coil insert. When anodize, Iridite or other finishes are used, all tapped hole dimensions must be met after the finishes are applied. Helicoil Tapping Data - Metric Heli-Coil taps in various types and styles produce holes for Tolerance Classes 4H5H or 3B and 5H or 2B for use in the general range of aluminums, magnesiums, mild steels, free machining stainless steels and other free machining materials. Conventional shop practice and production procedures, speeds, feeds and lubricants should be used in combination with proper fixturing and good tapping machines or tapping heads. The tapped hole must be held within the stated pitch diameter limits for the required Tolerance Class of fit for the installed Heli-Coil insert. For Standard free running inserts , a tolerance class 5H or 2B is recommended.
Helicoil tap sizes
Helicoil inserts are screw thread bushings coiled from wire of diamond shape cross-section. They are fit into thread tapped holes to form internal threads with nominal size. Helicoil inserts are diametrically larger than the tapped hole.

If the finished tapped hole gauges satisfactorily, the installed insert will be within the thread tolerance. Home Forums Fire your bullets!!! They have supplied you with the wrong one. Less than 0. Eliminating the need for primer, these inserts are coated to resist corrosion when installed in different materials.
Contact Us at The HeliCoil instructions below will help you learn what a HeliCoil is, their applications, and how the threaded inserts are installed.
Because then I'd likely be working on a British bike, and I'd be proper screwed. Number of Inserts Included. Should the Helicoil sit flush with the top of the drilled hole and should I be using Thread Lock when inserting the Helicoils. Tensile Strength.
