By Jay Peters , a news editor who writes about technology, video games, and virtual worlds. You can easily spend dozens upon dozens of hours in each game and not see everything they have to offer. But for me, both games just had too much. The expansion takes place in a flooded and overgrown Los Angeles, which is now known as the Burning Shores thanks to the lava also flowing through the area. Tall buildings are partially submerged in water, and the Hollywood sign looms in the distance with a giant machine tangled around it.

This expansion brings Aloy to the Burning Shores , a volcanic archipelago formed from the ruins of Los Angeles accessible after completing the main story. Knowing that Londra is too far dangerous to be left alive, Aloy departs via Sunwing to the archipelago. The announcement trailer for the Burning Shores DLC, released in December , briefly shows Aloy on the back of a Sunwing, in which she appears not to be wearing the default Nora Anointed armor, but rather an armor that bears heavy resemblance to that of the Quen tribe. The entire location appears to have become a "treacherous volcanic archipelago", as described by Guerilla. Landmarks shown in the trailer include the Capitol Records building, the Griffith Observatory and of course the Hollywood sign. Aside from this, the Ferris Wheel of Venice Beach is shown in the trailer's thumbnail. Horizon Wiki Explore. Explore Wikis Community Central. Don't have an account? Current Wiki.
Would recommend using that berserker skill yo manage crowd control.
It would have been relatively easy for Guerrilla Games to rest on their laurels and put out a Horizon expansion that was just more Forbidden West. And in some ways, the Burning Shores DLC is exactly that: a distilled helping of what made the core game so great — an elevated sci-fi story in a pulpy wrapping, tied with a bow made from high-octane action. You'll once again be fighting machines, solving puzzles, and yes, climbing tall structures. But Guerrilla has done much more here, adding in surprises with new machines to discover and introducing even more fun ways to take them down. Burning Shores is for the most part a great time, and clumsily engineered ending aside, a worthy addition to the Horizon series. After the conclusion of the main campaign, this DLC summons you to LA in order to hunt down a lead that may be helpful against the looming threat introduced at the end of Forbidden West's story.

It wastes no time in throwing you into that danger, either, plunging you straight back into the rousing rhythms of Horizon combat. At first, I found myself scrambling in the sand to rediscover half-buried techniques such as whipping into the air and slowing down time, but quickly got back in the zone, shifting styles like the tectonic plates sliding beneath me. Due to the clustered island nature of this new area, the level design tends to naturally create large, contained spaces that are perfect as action-filled arenas. The combat encounters that unfold within these spaces feel as accomplished as anything Guerrilla has created in the Horizon series yet, with a great variety of enemies paired together and environments filled with opportunity.

Sam Witwer does a brilliant job at bringing Londra to life as a messianic, fantasist grifter even whilst his louder and more outrageous sci-fi story plays second fiddle to a narrative about family and belonging that blossoms subtly underneath. I don't know if it would've taken down the Slaughterspine much quicker, but it sure would've helped. Cancel X. The water wing apex farm annoyed me so much. I reported the inability to change back from Ultra Hard difficult post main campaign as a bug to Guerilla. But Guerrilla has done much more here, adding in surprises with new machines to discover and introducing even more fun ways to take them down. I won't spoil what it is here, but it's a highly enjoyable and delightfully powerful addition that I quickly became reliant on in later battles. You'd be better off trying to convince a wall. Back to PlayStation. Guerrilla teamed Aloy up with a buddy during much of Forbidden West , but Seyka quickly became my favorite of her companions. It's frustrating that we can't without restarting the main campaign again. Probably a hipster. Burning Shores Spoilers. I don't play games on difficulties where they were meant to be unrealistically difficult. With Forbidden West so focused on the bigger picture, I felt it often failed to tell the smaller, inbetween, stories that Zero Dawn did so well, especially where Aloy was concerned.
Those relationships never went beyond the platonic level, though. Multiple male characters have expressed romantic interest in Aloy in the past, but she would always shoot them down.
There are exciting outdoor battles and slower lore-building moments in futuristic bunkers. Admits A couple of poor boss battles aside, Burning Shores is a great new chapter with enough creative new bells and whistles to keep Horizon fans more than happy. How to find Apex Stormbirds? Grimjawpantera 10 months ago 2 Ehh it's challenging which it should be. Then there's the huge-scale final encounter, where the clunky action just can't match the spectacle as you're bounced around the arena like a ragdoll while trying to find damage-dealing windows. Aside from this, the Ferris Wheel of Venice Beach is shown in the trailer's thumbnail. It's joined by fresh abilities added to the skill tree, some of which are fantastically effective and — crucially — fun to use. I know i can play it on easy as i got the save. Sign In Register.
