The images in this set are a little more modern than the Authentic Blue collection that I so enjoyed working with last year. However you can still make really pretty cards to send to friends and family.
How oh how did this happen???? This year is hurtling along, is it not?? Spring is bustin' out all over. The flowers on the pendulant branches of the blossom trees are slowly unfurling The magnolias are flowering and the orchid-like, silky petals of the dutch irises are beginning to burst out from the papery spathes to stand tall. There is a sea of glorious blue hues of forget-me-nots everywhere and the bluebells are swaying in colours of blue, pink and white. Oh, I can see too, it won't be long till the lilacs explode into their purple gorgeousness; and the granny bonnets and foxgloves are about to burst onto the scene as well.

Daily life was a blur of diapers before disposables and making baby food in a blender for all of them. Breastfeeding and wearing nursing bras seemed to be the only attire in my closet. There was little time for fun sewing except to make more plastic lined diaper covers and baby dresses and hope that the teething stage would pass quickly in time for their progression into nursery school. So, imagine my surprise this week when I received a whole collection of unfinished baby quilts donated to our local American Sewing Guild. Since I had no idea of the best way to attach already quilted fabric to thin flannel, I decided to just use my bartack stitch on my machine and space them out as evenly as I could to join the 2 together. Then, I made the binding using fabric I had in my stash and not use the nylon binding in the package. Thought you would like to see the label and the price back then. What you got was a nice little collection of laces, rick rack and ribbons to use for doll clothes. This time I attached the 2 layers with a straight stitch following the zigzag quilted lines on the top layer and using the nylon binding as a regular binding. I attached it to the back and flipped it to the front and stitched it along the folded edge. The stitching on the flannel back looked like a frame and the corners were done separately to hold them securely. You can see the rough texture of the home dec fabric but it was double the thickness of the Holly Hobby ones. Finally, this navy and white beauty was left in a garbage bag for years in a storage unit after being totally pieced by hand. One of our generous ASG members offered to quilt it on her large quilting frame after another member, Sandi, added the blue borders and all those quilting swirls helped to hold all the pieces together and attach the backing.
Sincerely yours Helaine M Post a Reply. That fabric is just right for the back of Lucy's quilt. Oh, what a lovely quilt!

Denise Holly Ulinskas marred Douglas Hobbie in In the late 60s, she created the Holly Hobbie character and sold the image to American Greetings cards. The beautiful watercolor paintings struck a chord with Americans, and the image of the bonneted little girl in the patchwork dress quickly became ubiquitous.

Your spring flowers are beautiful. I love your stories and your garden. Several years ago I happened upon a curtain in a thrift shop with sweet Sarah Kay girls featured all over. They might be dressed well not knowing the spectacle that awaits them! Another 3D Embossing folder made the background to the frame pop behind the butterflies which I coloured by blending a range of yellow, pink and green oxide inks onto a piece of white card before die cutting. The floralicious photos are a delight! I remember having to wait those six weeks for those tidbits. The gentle, modest nature of Holly Hobbie reminded us of slower and sweeter bygone times. I was a fan of Hollie Hobbie as a child. Someone will think they are adorable and love them. Richard S.

It seems there are a lot of us who remember it with much delight. Enjoy your lovely spring days! Oh Lordie…less coverage???? That little girl will enjoy many hours of pouring over not only the wonderful variety of fabrics on the front, but the many different girls on the back. That is very kind. Holly Hobbie has a stunning resemblance to the Sarah Kay characters and styles - I was and still am quite crazy about it. Lucy's quilt is looking beautiful and the backing is lovely, perfect for a little girl. It looks beautiful and the backing fabric is perfect for it. It was so cute! January 21, at pm.
