I did try using just the bottom blade with a couple extra washers for spacers, and the results weren't too bad. It absolutely bagged better that it did with both blades and left less stragglers. Mulching wasn't as good obviously, but I will say that using just the single lower blade does better at mulching than the twin blade does at bagging.
