Going for the Gold — A look at the Gold series promotional releases. Starting in Mattel released the first of a series of Gold Edition cars. These were mostly available in countries outside of the United States. Each store did the give-away differently. Stores were given cases of these Gold Edition cars to give away to customers as they purchased a certain number of cars or sold at a premium price. It was done this way to offer a special car and not have to mail out cars to international buyers. Intended mostly for the international markets, some of these cars of these have been used in the US for store promotions.

This time the promotion car was a special Chrome Gold Quick n' Sik. After purchasing 5 Hot Wheels cars and sending the receipt to Mattel before April 15 th , you were sent a special Quick n' Sik on a long card but this time without a Kar Keeper.
