A turtle farm , turtle shell farm , or scute farm is a means of breeding turtles to harvest scutes , which are used to craft a turtle helmet. In addition to having the same defense value as an iron helmet , it has greater durability than an iron helmet, and grants the water breathing status effect for 10 seconds. Also, a turtle helmet can be enchanted with Respiration for an additional 15 seconds underwater. Another use for a turtle farm are potions of the turtle master, an extremely powerful potion that can be used for PvP. This tutorial describes a turtle farm that can reasonably be built in survival mode. First you need to obtain turtle eggs.

The Turtle Shell helmet gives an additional 10 seconds of time under water before the player starts to take damage. This makes diving into shipwrecks much easier - and early game, the loot from these shipwrecks is very useful. Shipwrecks generate with up to 3 loot chests containing various seeds sometimes bamboo! An enchanted diamond or netherite helmet is a better choice; and I personally do not think that a Potion of the Turtle Master is worth the inventory slot. I like using path finding in my farms, and turtle babies attempt to path find to the nearest water source block with sky light access. You arrange the layout so that the water source blocks on one side are always the nearest for every block inside the enclosure, and then you stop the migration to the sea with trap doors, dropping the baby turtles down at least 2 blocks. The baby turtles sometimes climb on each other, and when they grow up they can glitch out of the kill chamber if you use less than that. Turtles will lay their eggs only on their home beach. If you trap non-local turtles in your enclosure, they will never lay eggs. I suggest finding a nice turtle beach and breeding 2 turtles, then building your farm around those first eggs. Once you have your turtle eggs, light up the area and build an enclosure around it.
If you don't build around eggs, but instead lure turtles with sea grass into your farm and then breed them there, they won't lay their eggs in your farm. Maybe you can even let them build the farm themselves when given some dirt and water buckets?

Turtles are a passive mob that are primarily used for harvesting materials in Minecraft and are known to drop Seagrass, Scute, and a Bowl upon death. In this guide, we'll cover the process of breeding Turtles and will detail the food and items you'll need to breed these chill mobs successfully. Once you have some shears go into the water and look for some seagrass. Now that you have the seagrass, go to two turtles and feed them and the turtles will enter love mode. After love mode is complete, one of the turtles will be a bit large and have eggs. You can safely mine the eggs using the Silk Touch enchantment. Looking to breed another animal? Spillover from the water source blocks is not shown, and neither are mob-protection features or the collection chest at the end of the row of hoppers. The beach should be relatively flat and level with the water. Without a gate, you shouldn't be able to climb inside if you can, then so can mobs. To get to the Nether, you need to build a Nether portal , and travel through it. Once you have the turtle shell helmet in your inventory, open your inventory. Optionally, it's also good to have several hoppers and a chest. You can craft torches from wooden sticks and coal or charcoal using a crafting table. Turtle eggs need to have direct access to moonlight at night. You can build the underwater enclosure out of wooden planks, or anything you want. However, place it on the bottom of that block rather than the top, to provide a staircase of sorts. The important bit is that on one side, you need an additional block and then water, and on all other sides the water must be further away. You could AFK this, personally I just build my starter base within tick distance of my turtle farm.

Then place another row of temporary blocks next to the row of blocks on top of the hoppers. Feed the seagrass to the turtles. If the adult turtles are blocking the babies from getting to the water, you can give them a whack to get them to move out of the way. You'll need a few blaze rods. The turtle must be fuelled. Would I be right in guessing the way this works it probably needs to have as many seeds in slot 1 as are required for the size of the plot to ensure slot 1 is always for seeds? Equip the turtle shell helmet. Updated: January 3, In the enclosure, all non-sand blocks should be replaced with sand. Yes No.
