After having his Bankai destroyed, Ichigo Kurosaki reforged his sword and unleashed its true power in the season finale of the first cour of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War. The sword Zangetsu has been a constant presence in Ichigo's life since he became a Shinigami, but he needed to learn about the secret origins of his powers before unleashing the true form of his Zanpakuto. Just like every Shinigami, Ichigo has a Zanpakuto, a Soul Sword, which he uses to fight and purify the creatures known as Hollows before sending their souls to the afterlife. Every one of Bleach's Zanpakuto has a unique appearance , power, and personality. Zangetsu's spirit always appeared in Ichigo's inner world a mental landscape as a middle-aged man with long hair and rugged looks, but the two-part mid-season finale of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War revealed that Ichigo actually knew nothing about his sword. After Ichigo failed to acquire a new sword following the destruction of his Bankai by Yhwach, Nimaiya sent him back to Earth where he found out that his mother was actually a Quincy.
