This is the first book in a series collecting the works of French comics maestro Jean Giraud Moebius. Moebius to me, is an icon. An artist of monolithic stature whose works are like visual scriptures, full of wonder and meaning. You can can totally get lost in his art, and that is one of best qualities of an accomplished artist and storyteller such as him. The first story is called The Repairman a short prequel to the main story. We are introduced to two characters; space-travelling mechanic Stel and his associate Atan, who are called to repair a vehicle on an alien planet.

Of all my reviews here at Hollywood metal, my favorite are when I get to review lesser known material. Be it albums, movies, or comics. Delving into a work either lightly tread or momentarily forgotten is a wonderful experience. I do not think Jean Giraud, better known as Moebius, is a particularly obscure comic artist, but rather he is lesser known than other fantasy comic artists. His work lies down a path that is accessible to anyone who travels a little bit farther into fantasy comics. Though it is easy to poke fun at cheesy fantasy comics with wooden story-lines, the work of Moebius is so vastly different than this, that it is hard to consider it part of the same genre.

As a kid who gobbled up superhero comics, my world was rocked at a young age by the likes of Heavy Metal Magazine and Epic Illustrated, whose artists - Moebius among them - showed me that comics was as powerful an artistic and storytelling medium as any other. Both of those stories are fine points for a fantasy discussion, however the topic for this review is a piece that was conceived, oddly enough, by a car company. The structure is surrounded by a refugee camp of alien species who have arrived here by accident some thousands of years ago. About the author. This is a collection of short stories by Moebius. Of all my reviews here at Hollywood metal, my favorite are when I get to review lesser known material. Moebius is a legend, and all of his work fascinates me.

What started as an obligation triggered a 40 page long story with prequels, sequels, and related stories. By forcing myself to draw Upon a Star in a style as pure as simple as possible, I could no longer find myself refuge in an excess of details. Moebius craft stories that blend interests in classic science fiction and fantasy with mysticism and surrealist painting to create multi-dimensional tales of sex, death, and enlightenment. First volume of Jean Giraud's, Moebius collected works. Almost all of these panels make great wallpapers for computers or phone. Contact seller. The plot of the story is fine. My first Moebius book. The story published in a French finance magazine is particularly saccharine, with long expository passages about mankind's propensity for war, destructive nature, failure to live 'in balance', and the failure of its religions to move towards 'cosmic unity'. The whole thing plays like a dream, which emanates new age spirituality. Displaying 1 - 30 of 33 reviews. I do not love his storytelling, but there's certainly something to his rambling stream-of-consciousness imagination-narratives. Though the comic lacks any of the gratuitous subject matter typical of underground publications, the artistic freedom that comes with a narrative like this is more than entertaining to experience.
